African Musicians in Yugoslavia

Thousands of students from African countries studied in Yugoslavia between the 1960s and the 1980s. Among them were individuals who also pursued musical paths as singers, composers, and performers. They appeared in a wide range of venues, recorded singles and albums, were featured on radio broadcasts, and appeared in magazines and on television.
For some, these musical activities were brief episodes during their studies. For others, they developed into sustained artistic careers that continued for decades and, in some cases, extended into the post-Yugoslav period.

This website brings together available information and documentation about these musicians and their work. It is both an archive and a tribute to their contribution to the musical landscape of Yugoslavia.
