Artists

Ahmed Taib from Uganda, Edi Dekeng from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mohamed Sow from Guinea, Steve Hannington from Kenya, Joseph Rakotorahalahy from Madagascar, and Raul Alberto Dias from Guinea-Bissau arrived in Yugoslavia at different moments between the 1960s and the 1980s to pursue their studies. Alongside their educational paths, each became actively involved in music — as solo artists or members of bands, as performers, composers, or both.

The sections below document their musical activities and recorded output, presenting both commercially released works and recordings preserved in archival collections. They also bring together a range of additional sources available online, including interviews, live performances, press materials, and other documents that help reconstruct their artistic trajectories and contributions to Yugoslavia's (as post-Yugoslav countries’) musical life.
